Poem of a Bering Sea Captain – The Sea

The Sea
most my life’s been spent at sea
land became a mystery
I started young and thought I missed
so many things I could not list
the world passed by as I sailed
I often felt that I had failed
so much lost as each day passed
I hoped the feeling would not last
years went by as I became
a man whose spirit would never tame
I searched the sea and never found
where I fit in upon dry ground
the salt crept deep into my soul
I found that I could not control
the pulling force inside my heart
on land I slowly fell apart
a sailor’s blood inside my veins
and yet the longing still remains
to find a place to call my home
across the sea I’m cursed to roam…
